Bingo Online - Spanish Fever
Bingo is a hot topic in Spain, almost as hot as the weather. With summer monthly average temperatures reaching the high 40s in some regions of Spain you would be forgiven for thinking that the Spanish are used to the heat. But talk to most Spanish locals who live in areas with such temperatures, and they will always tell you they are seeking the ‘sombre’ (shade) or ways of cooling down. Indeed some families even sleep on the cold tiled floors in the hope of cooling down for a good nights sleep. The temperature in Spain is a determining factor in the way the Spanish live their life. For example, during the hot summer afternoons it is physically impossible to work outside in the heat and is the reason for the long lunch breaks or siestas, usually from around 1pm until 4 or 5pm. In the evenings also the Spanish tend not to eat until very late in the night, at times of around 10 or 11pm, as they finish work normally around 8.30pm. This also allows them to eat outside in the cooler night time temperatures and means they often then go on to party until dawn, another typical Spanish pastime. For many who finish their meals during the early hours of the morning, or for those who return from a late night partying, and find it hard to sleep, there has become an increasing demand for the popular game of online bingo. One such online bingo operator, Juega Bingo Ya, recently produced statistics showing that the peak times for playing bingo during the summer months was from 3am until 5am, with player numbers remaining constant throughout the summer. This shows that the desire to play bingo did not take a downturn in the summer but instead shifted to more cooler hours of the morning. With a recent smoking ban coming into force in Spain, whereby proprietors of bingo halls are now required to partition smoking and non smoking areas, this has had an affect on online bingo too. Player numbers for one of Spain’s leading land based bingo halls, shows a downturn of some 4.6% since the smoking ban was introduced. This can be compared to online bingo numbers which have increased in one such online bingo operator (juega bingo ya) by some 24% so far this year (2007). The Spanish lottery market is one of the biggest in the world. The people of Spain go crazy for El Gordo and other lottery games. Bingo falls into this category and as such, the people of Spain seem to be going crazy for online bingo, with figures of some Euro 4.2 billion being forecast by the year 2010, with Spain’s overall gambling market set to reach some 39 billion by the same year. Figures like these show that bingo and gambling are reaching fever pitch in Spain, making it one of the hottest online markets in Europe, behind Sweden and the UK with no sign of cooling down, making it as temperate as the climate!
